I am so excited to be working on lauching the Houston Chapter of Wish Upon a Wedding. Giving back to the community is such a big part of who we are a Simply Jubilee Events and to be able to give back through granting wedding wishes to couples who have a terminal illness.

Wish Upon A Wedding was founded in San Francisco, CA, in January of 2010, by a group of wedding and business entrepreneurs and is America’s FIRST nonprofit wedding wish granting organization, producing weddings and civil union ceremonies at destinations across the United States for individuals facing terminal illness, regardless of sexual orientation.

To qualify for Wishes, applicants must be unmarried legal citizens of the United States, over the age of 18, who have been diagnosed with less than three years to live.  Couples can be granted wishes either in the chapter where they live or in a chapter of their choosing as long as they are able to make the trip.

Couples can simply apply online to request one of three wedding types:
URGENT (Up to 10 guests, in hospital or at bedside);
BOUTIQUE (up to 25 guests, in home town of applicant);

All Things Flowers

Happy February SJE fans! Yes, it’s February, the month of love and soon you may be receiving flowers. Have you ever found yourself wondering about the different flower terms? If you are knee deep in wedding planning or just starting you will probably hear many floral terms during the planning process. It isn’t necessary to get a PhD in flowers before getting married, however these are some terms that your wedding planner or floral designer might use.

Types of Bouquets:

Cascade
A waterfall-like spill of blooms, often composed of ivy and long-stemmed flowers, that is wired to cascade gracefully over the bride’s hands.
Nosegays
Small, round bouquets, approximately 16 to 18 inches in diameter, composed of densely packed round flowers, greenery, and occasionally herbs. Nosegays are wired or tied together.
Tossing
This copy of the bridal bouquet is used solely for the bouquet toss.
Tussy mussy
From the Victorian era, a tussy mussy is a posy carried in a small, metallic, hand-held vase. Today, the term is often used in reference to the holder itself.

Other Flowers or Arrangements:

Fish bowl
Low centerpiece style that consists of flowers clustered in a glass bowl.

Huppah

A wedding canopy decorated with flowers, that is an integral part of the traditional Jewish ceremony.
Ikebana
Japanese-style flower arrangements that are aesthetically in unison with space, size, earth, and air.

Donate versus Trash the Dress

Brides Against Brides Cancer_Logo

Brides search high and low for the perfect dress for their wedding day and on average will spend approximately $1,500 to wear it only once. Instead of partaking in the latest craze of trashing the trash, consider making someone else’s dreams come true.

“Brides Against Breast CancerTM, Nationwide Tour of Gowns” are in need of contemporary gown styles, slips and veils dating from 2000 until the present day. Each gown is carefully prepared for their upcoming sale which the proceeds enable Making Memories to grant final wishes to women and men suffering from terminal breast cancer.

They also accept other wedding related items (i.e. bridesmaid dresses, mother of the bride dresses and flower girl dresses, veils, shoes, purses, slips, bras, etc….)
