I completed my bachelor of arts in Communication Studies in May 2010 and I have worked extensively with public relations in diverse backgrounds from local business activities to minor-league baseball. I have also actively gained an education in global citizenship through my travels abroad. As a Communications Intern at the Decorah Area Chamber of Commerce, I have fulfilled the role of a communication technician in a wide variety of circumstances. This position allowed me to perfect the art of writing a press release, compiling a newsletter, creating advertising campaigns and facilitating communication between the executive director and various publishers. I have also worked in promotions for the Saint Paul Saints minor league baseball club. I worked on the creative team which implemented nightly activities in correlation to the given theme of the game. The team’s efforts maintained and enhanced the eclectic, fun and family-friendly atmosphere that marks the Saints games as a local summer tradition. In addition, I have developed a sense of global citizenship through my extensive international travel. I have had brief encounters in Canada, Mexico, France and New Zealand. I also spent five months in Adelaide, Australia during my bachelor degree studies. My emersion into Australian culture has given me insight into the varying motivations, values and needs of citizens in that country. In addition, my cultural sensitivity has become further refined, aiding me in relating to an increasingly globalized society.
